ILA Strike Ends with Tentative Agreement, Ports Set to Reopen

The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) strike has come to an end following a tentative agreement between the union and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). The strike, which disrupted ports along the East Coast and Gulf Coast, will now see workers returning to their jobs, with ports expected to reopen October 4, 2024.
The agreement extends the existing contract through January 15, allowing both parties more time to negotiate a longer-term solution. As part of the deal, ILA port workers will see their hourly rate increase from $39 to $63 over the next six years. Though the strike initially raised concerns about potential supply chain disruptions, the swift resolution suggests the impact will be minimal.
Businesses should prepare for some delays as operations ramp back up, but major disruptions are not expected.
