Following yesterday's tragic events, Governor Landry declared an Emergency Declaration on January 1 to streamline resources between federal, state, and local agencies.

Here is what we know regarding reopening of the French Quarter scene:

  • Clean-up efforts at the scene were completed this morning.
  • Vendor access has started by using the cross streets, however, main artery access -- Royal, Bourbon and Dauphine -- is still limited.
  • Bourbon Street is scheduled to reopen to the public before the 3 p.m. game start time.
  • For members with LRA Workers' Compensation coverage

If you or your staff need counseling services, please contact Melissa Dixon at mdixon@lra.org.

Additionally, we are collaborating with the Governor’s Office to support their meeting with the SBA this afternoon and working closely with legislative leaders to initiate the recovery process.

We were just advised by city officials that the Bourbon street business area will remain closed. Law enforcement continues to process the area as a crime scene. They don’t have a projection of when it will be reopened to the public. We were told they would provide updates as they occur.

Obviously this is not the information we had hoped for. However we have to allow law enforcement to complete their work in the area before reopening. As we receive further updates, we will apprise you.

We were just advised by the City of New Orleans that the FBI/Homeland Security has closed Bourbon Street from the Canal intersection up to the 900 block until further notice. They are still actively working this area as a crime scene. Please support them by sharing this with your team members and staying out of the vicinity.

The City is issuing an emergency proclamation that ties this event to a potential terrorism attack. This might be of help in making a future claim for business interruption in the event you have terrorism coverage.

The leadership of the Council and the District Councilmember have communicated their interest to provide assistance to the business community affected. The GNO Foundation is opening a fund to assist the victims of this tragedy. We’ve communicated with the leadership of the Legislature who is working with Governor Landry. They are considering a deployment of the National Guard to support law enforcement.

We understand this disruption is unexpected. The events of last evening are unimaginable and will have an impact on many innocent victims. We have not heard any final announcement on the status of tonight’s scheduled Sugar Bowl CFP game.

Our industry is resilient and will come together to support each other during this time. We are thankful to those members who have offered to provide food for the 8th District NOPD command post to feed the first responders, NOPD, State Police, Sheriff, other state agencies, and federal law enforcement who are deployed to support our community. We appreciate this generosity.

We are saddened by the tragedy in the French Quarter overnight. At present the Bourbon Street corridor is closed being treated as a crime scene. What should have been a joyous celebration evolved into a horrific event.

We send our prayers to our residents, visitors and law enforcement members who were victims of this tragedy or were injured and are currently being treated.

As we learn about access to the French Quarter, further restrictions or cancellations or impact to events, we will share it.

For now, those blocks of Bourbon Street affected are being combed by law enforcement to better understand the elements of this tragedy. They have asked the public to recognize all barricades and any areas taped off and not enter those areas.

We are a resilient community and industry. We will come together to support each other. But for now local, state and federal law enforcement is working to make sense of this tragedy.
