The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and the Department of Wildlife & Fisheries (WLF) have informed us of a temporary closure of oyster harvesting in Area 3. This precautionary measure comes after Alabama health officials raised concerns about a potential foodborne illness. Out of an abundance of caution, harvest from Area 3 has been suspended.

It’s important to note that this closure does not impact the other 27 oyster harvesting areas statewide, which remain open and operational.

The Louisiana Restaurant Association works closely with LDH and WLF to ensure transparency and timely communication regarding any seafood supply chain issues. The safety and integrity of Louisiana seafood are always our top priorities.

If you have any questions regarding your oyster supply, please contact your purveyor directly. For the official communication and further details, visit the Louisiana Department of Health’s update here.

We appreciate your attention to this matter and your continued commitment to serving safe, high-quality Louisiana seafood.
