Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Set to Deliver a Swift Lift to New Orleans’ Economy

Oct 22, 2024

When Taylor Swift brings her Eras Tour to New Orleans on October 25, 26, and 27, the city will experience an economic impact as monumental as a weekend packed with three Super Bowls. With 150,000 Swifties expected to descend on the Crescent City—just ahead of Halloween, no less—restaurants, shops, and hotels are preparing for a surge of out-of-town visitors, much like the record-breaking weekend Miami just experienced.

The tour’s economic valuation was initially estimated at $5 billion, higher than the GDP of 50 countries. That figure has since been revised to $6.3 billion in the U.S. and Canada alone, and some estimates suggest the global impact could reach $80 billion. According to U.S. Travel Association, Swifties average $1,300 per person in spending on hotels, food, merchandise, and costumes, rivaling Super Bowl spending on every concert night.

New Orleans restaurants are embracing Taylornomics with Swift-themed events and menus. Jack Rose’s Swift-Tea events promise a whimsical experience, while Tableau’s balcony bashes and Commander's Palace’s Eras-themed menu will have fans singing along between bites. Miss River at the Four Seasons and Arnaud’s have also leaned into the excitement, the latter selling out instantly. Even Haydel’s Bakery is crafting Eras-themed cakes, while Fleurty Girl has decked out each of her nine locations in different Eras themes to attract shoppers looking for the perfect concert fit.

The Swift Lift is already making waves in local economies across the country. In cities like Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, Taylor’s concerts have boosted hotel occupancy rates, taxes, and spending, with the total economic impact of her U.S. leg estimated at more than $10 billion. For New Orleans restaurants, hotels and attractions, this weekend will certainly usher in some record-breaking “Karma” with an influx of Swifties bringing their “Wildest Dreams” to life.
