Visa/Mastercard Settlement Deadline Nears
Jan 28, 2025
Businesses that accepted Visa and/or MasterCard payments between January 1, 2004, and January 25, 2019, are eligible to file a claim in a significant antitrust settlement. This includes nonprofits, closed businesses, and those that have declared bankruptcy. The settlement, estimated at $5.5 billion, aims to compensate merchants for alleged overcharges on interchange fees during this 15-year period.
Eligible merchants can expect to receive between 1% and 2% of their total Visa and MasterCard credit card transactions from the specified 15-year period. This could provide meaningful financial relief to many businesses affected by the alleged overcharges. To ensure all eligible parties have ample time to participate, the deadline to submit a claim has been extended to February 4, 2025, at 11:59 PM PST.
Notices were mailed to potential claimants beginning in December 2023, but participation remains low, with less than 15% of eligible claims filed to date. This highlights the importance of raising awareness among businesses that may still be unaware of their eligibility. Don’t miss the opportunity to recover funds owed to you—submit your claim before the deadline.
